Color Loom is dedicated to creating fabrics and home textiles in contemporary colors.  We use the traditional textile techniques of India as a palette for design. Our handcrafted products are offered in color stories to inspire home decor that is comfortable, stylish and easy to put together.

Contemporary colors in handloomed textiles.
Celebrate the interplay of weave, texture and color.
We design our fabrics in our studio in Berkeley, California. Dipping into our textile library and archive of historical fabrics, we delight in working with the interplay of weave, texture and color.

Our designs are then dyed, woven or embroidered by master craftsmen in India in a wide range of natural fabrics. Our cottons, linens and silks run from lightweight sheers for curtains to heavyweight twill stripes for upholstery.

Inspiration comes in colors

We met in India. Our first date lasted 36 hours. Auspiciously, it was on the full moon of the color festival of Holi, when people run wild throwing powdered color on each other in the streets.

At sunset, we took a magical boat ride on the lake in the bird sanctuary at Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Surrounded by flocks of birds shadowed against a glowing sky of oranges, pinks and purples, floating along in an old faded gray wooden row boat, we discovered our mutual love of Indian textiles and our desire to bring contemporary design to traditional Indian products.

On that first date we sketched out the lines of the business we are still doing today.

When I was young, sewing was a way to drape myself in color. When I was 16, I made my own emerald green silk velvet dress for the prom. When I was 19, I wandered around Europe seeking the pristine white laces of Belgium and the red and yellow cross-stitch costumes of Croatia.  When I went to art school studying weaving, yarn became my paintbrush.

When I arrived in India and was hit by the explosion of color in the most beautiful hand woven fabrics I'd ever seen, I knew I had landed in textile heaven.  When I found out that the master weavers would dye any color I wanted, I knew I'd found my place.

I've been surrounded by vibrant color and handmade textiles all my life - I grew up in India. I went from designing my own clothes and shoes at the age of fourteen with the local tailor shop in Delhi, to spending five years photographing the Art Deco colors in Miami Beach. I can't seem to kick the habit of design. Telling color stories in textiles is the cure.
